How to save a WhatsApp status video on Android

How Status Saver actually works

On modern Android, apps cannot silently browse other apps’ files. Status Saver uses Android’s folder picker (Storage Access Framework) so you grant read access to the folder WhatsApp already uses for statuses you viewed:

WhatsApp Business: Android/media/com.whatsapp.w4b/WhatsApp Business/Media/.Statuses

After you allow that folder once, VidPivot lists the photos and videos inside it, and Save copies a chosen file into Downloads/VidPivot. The grant is remembered until you revoke it in system settings.

Step by step

Watch the status in WhatsApp (or WhatsApp Business). Open the status and let the video play. WhatsApp only places a local file in the Statuses folder after you view it.
Open VidPivot. On the home screen, tap the Status Saver card — or use the bottom Status tab.
First time only — grant folder access. You will see Grant folder access. Tap Grant access. On the system screen, confirm you are on the .Statuses folder (the app tries to open there for you), then tap Use this folder and Allow.
Pick the right source tab. Use WhatsApp for the normal app, or Business if the status was from WhatsApp Business. Each source needs its own grant the first time.
Filter to Videos. Tap the Videos chip (or leave All if you prefer). Pull down to refresh if you just watched something new.
Save the video. Tap the orange Save control on the thumbnail, or open the status and tap Save on the preview. You should see a short “Saved to Downloads/VidPivot” confirmation.
Find it later. Open your phone’s Files / Downloads app → VidPivot folder. You can also open saved items from VidPivot’s own downloads area.

Is this downloading private content?

No. It only works on statuses that were shared with you and that you already opened in WhatsApp. The app copies the same on-device file WhatsApp stored after viewing — into your Downloads folder — before the 24-hour window clears it. It does not reach content you were not allowed to see, and it does not upload statuses to a server.

What can go wrong

The video never appears. View it fully in WhatsApp first. Switch WhatsApp vs Business. Pull to refresh. Confirm folder access is still granted.
Stuck on “Grant folder access”. Complete Use this folder → Allow. If you cancelled the picker, tap Grant access again.
Empty after granting access. You may have selected a parent folder. Prefer the folder literally named .Statuses. Then view a status and refresh.
Status gone by next day. WhatsApp clears statuses after about 24 hours. Save the same day you view them.
Save fails. Free up storage and try again. Success path writes under Downloads/VidPivot via the system media store.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the internet to save?

No — not for the save itself. Viewing the status in WhatsApp may need a connection once; after that, Status Saver works offline.

Does the poster get notified when I save?

No. WhatsApp may notify them that you viewed the status (if view receipts are on). Saving a local copy afterward does not send a separate “saved” notification.

Is it free?

Can I revoke folder access later?
